Humble Beginnings
The company’s concept originated from Gavin’s experience with electrical blackouts while on vacation at the family house in Guyana, South America in 2009, while ironing his shirt. The following day, the same event happened again at the exact time. His parents found the situation amusing, as it was a common occurrence. However, Gavin, frustrated with the unreliable electricity, decided to install a solar system with batteries on his family’s home to provide a more sustainable and independent energy source.
With the support of his parents, Gavin began his Solar training courses in York in 2010 after returning to London. In 2012, Gavin and his parents purchased some solar panels and batteries for the family home. The same year, Gavin travelled to Guyana to host a Solar training course in his mother’s living room for a week, teaching local participants how to install solar systems with batteries. Gavin utilized a PowerPoint presentation on Solar Systems to educate his students, which included a written exam at the end of the course.
In 2013, Gavin and seven of his students installed a 6KW solar system with batteries on the family home, which enabled the house to be entirely independent of the national grid and free from monthly electricity bills. Solarman7 Ltd was established on November 3, 2013, and has since expanded to become a reputable provider of top-quality solar energy solutions in the UK.
